Premier Outdoor Lighting Builder in New Milford, CT
Creative Minds Landscaping brings 11 years of hands-on experience to properties throughout Litchfield County. We build custom architectural, pathway, and landscape lighting that keeps your family safe after dark, brings out the best in your stone and plantings, and gives you a yard you can actually use long after dusk.
How We Light Up Your Yard
Dark yards do more than hide your landscaping, they make steps hard to see and keep you inside once the sun goes down. Creative Minds Landscaping builds low-voltage LED setups designed around your land’s specific slopes, plant beds, and layout. Because Connecticut winters are tough on exterior fixtures, we use solid brass and copper hardware that holds up against heavy snow, ice, and autumn rain without rusting out or cracking.
Showcasing Stonework and Architecture
Good accent lighting brings out the texture of fieldstone masonry, gables, dormers, and front entryways. Instead of washing out your house with harsh floodlights, we position low-profile fixtures at precise angles to cast soft light upward along your home’s vertical features.
Safe Footing Along Walkways and Driveways
Uneven flagstone paths and dark driveway steps are trip hazards waiting to happen. Our path fixtures cast warm light straight down onto ground surfaces rather than outward into your eyes. Guests can see where they are stepping without getting blinded by glare as they walk up to your door.
Soft Light for Patios, Decks, and Cooking Areas
If you enjoy grilling or hosting outdoors, you need lighting that makes the space usable without feeling like a parking lot at midnight. We install under-cap lights along retaining walls, subtle illumination under deck railings, and targeted lights around outdoor kitchens so you can cook and sit outside comfortably.
Highlighting Trees, Gardens, and Water Features
Mature oaks, Japanese maples, and stone waterfalls look entirely different when lit from below. Uplighting creates shadows and silhouettes that give your garden beds depth at night. We hide fixtures tucked inside plant beds so all you see is the effect, not the equipment.
Upgrading Older Halogen Systems to LED
If you have an older system running power-hungry halogen bulbs, you are likely dealing with frequent burnouts and high energy draw. We retrofit existing setups with modern LED fixtures and smart transformers. You get bright, warm light while drawing a fraction of the electricity.
Practical Reasons to Add Exterior Lighting
A well-planned exterior lighting system changes how your home feels at night while solving practical safety problems. By eliminating pitch-black corners around doors and side yards, you make your property much less attractive to intruders. Our systems are built using commercial-grade wiring and waterproof gel-filled connectors that withstand freeze-thaw cycles without shorting out.
- Better Security: Brightening shadow zones around garage doors, basements, and side entrances keeps your property well-lit and deters unwanted visitors.
- More Time Outdoors: You do not have to head inside just because the sun went down. Good patio and deck lighting lets you grill, eat, and hang out late into the evening.
- Safer Walking Paths: Clear visibility along steps, wall edges, and gravel paths keeps family members and visitors from taking a bad spill in the dark.
- Nighttime Curb Appeal: Strategic lighting shows off custom stonework, specimen trees, and architectural details that completely vanish once night falls.

We recently had the great experience of working with Crisitan and his team on a complicated pool patio and water feature. He installed retaining walls pillars and was fantastic. His team was on site every day he was easily reachable and always accommodating on adds we had. His attention to detail and explanation of the process was excellent. I would strongly recommend him for any masonry or landscape work. We could not be more pleased with our results.Posted on Google![]()

Avoid this business at all cost. As one of the reviewers said in one of the reviews which I agree and has experienced, Cristian Sanchez suddenly will not reply to your email or text messages. He will abandon customers just like that. Absolutely very unprofessional. He will sound very helpful at first when he is trying to sell his business but will abandon clients just like that when he thinks he already got what he wanted and moves on. Only thinking of himself and not his clients. I sent messages via email and text but he never replied to any after he got what he wanted. FYI I have masked my name for privacy reason and the business owner would say I was never in their list but I can assure you I had business with this company which should be avoided.

Common Questions
Do you handle outdoor lighting near me in New Milford?
Yes. Creative Minds Landscaping provides complete exterior lighting services throughout New Milford and nearby parts of Litchfield County. Whether your home sits near Candlewood Lake, along the Housatonic, or closer to town center, we handle every part of the job locally. That includes layout design, trenching wire, mounting fixtures, setting up smart transformers, and ongoing system maintenance.
Which light fixtures hold up best outdoors?
We work exclusively with solid brass and copper fixtures. Standard aluminum or composite plastics crack under heavy winter snow or turn brittle from sun exposure. Heavy brass and copper handle wet weather easily and age into a natural patina over time. Inside the housings, we use warm-white LED lamps (2700K to 3000K) that give off a soft glow similar to classic halogen without the heat or short lifespan.
How long does an installation usually take?
Most residential jobs wrap up in one to three days. A basic pathway and front facade package takes just a single day on site. Larger properties with extensive tree uplighting, hardscape step lights, and multiple lighting zones might take two or three days. We dig trenches by hand around root zones and flower beds to keep turf disruption to a minimum.
Will low-voltage LED lights run up my electric bill?
Hardly at all. Modern 12-volt LED fixtures use up to 80% less energy than older halogen setups. A typical layout with 15 to 20 LED lights running every night adds only a few dollars to your monthly electric bill. On top of low energy draw, the bulbs are rated for around 40,000 hours, so you will not be climbing ladders to change blown lamps every few months.
Can I adjust schedules from my phone?
We install smart transformers equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth controls. Using an app on your phone, you can turn zones on or off, dim specific lights, or override default timers. The controllers use astronomical timing, meaning they automatically adjust on and off triggers as sunset and sunrise times shift throughout the year in Connecticut.
Is it possible to repair an older system?
We do it all the time. If your current lights are flickering, half the yard went dark, or a lawn aerator sliced through a buried line, we can track down the issue and fix it. We frequently convert broken halogen systems over to LED, replace burnt-out transformers, re-splice damaged underground connections, and re-aim fixtures that drifted out of position.
What prevents lawnmowers from hitting underground wires?
We trench main power lines well below the root level where aerators, edgers, and mowers cannot reach them. Near garden borders, cables run along bed edges underneath mulch. Where wires cross under flagstone or stone pavers, we run them through protective PVC conduit sleeves. We also walk you through the line paths before leaving so you know where cables lie when planting new shrubs later on.
Any routine maintenance required after installation?
Low-voltage LED systems do not require much work, but a little seasonal attention keeps them performing well. Lenses occasionally need a quick wipe to clear away mud, hard water spots, or fallen leaves. Shrubs and ground cover sometimes need trimming back so they do not block light beams. We offer seasonal tune-ups to check line voltage, clean lenses, inspect splices, and make sure everything stays aimed where it belongs.
